Šiauliai, Lithuania, about 1930. These are relatives on my Dad's side. We have no clue about who they are.

SS Eastland Disaster
Today is the 100th anniversary of the disaster. At the time, the Lithuanian newspaper, "Draugas," "speculated that there were few Lithuanian casualties, because 'Lithuanians always run late' and many did not make it to the ship on time."
Neither Mr. Irene nor I learned about this incident until recently.

Departure
Lake Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, July 1964. This is one of the photos Dad took as a memento of a vacation's end. Mom's wearing that lovely mohair sweater, and Dad is in his familiar, plaid shirt. You can see Samoset Lodge in the background.

A Memorable House
Suburban Chicago, June 1961. This is my Best Friend's house; she lived in the Ashley model. The open window is in the home's kitchen. A serviceberry tree grew under that window. The berries made a mess on the patio pavement, but they attracted many birds.
The family living next door to this house had older, intimidating, boys. When the boys were teens, they organized a garage band. One June evening my Best Friend and I sat on their driveway and listened to the band play "Hanky Panky." We thought we were so cool: we sang along, "My baby doesn't hang a penny."
Dad took this photo from our yard. The pole on the left is the swingset support; on the right is one of the weeping willows.

Uncertain
Kaunas, Lithuania, 1943. One of the Facebook groups I follow is "Lietuva senose fotografijose"—"Lithuania in old photographs." The group recently published this photo. We were tickled to see it because we think the woman in the plaid skirt may be my Mom. The women are walking on "Laisvės Alėja," or "Liberty Boulevard."
Thanks to "Lietuva senose fotografijose" for giving me permission to post the photo here.

A Beloved Figure
Suburban Chicago, June 1964. The beloved pastor of our church addresses the eighth-grade graduates. This photo is unusual because it captured the pastor without a cigar in his mouth.

A Closer Look (Part 43)
Kaunas, Lithuania, about 1923. This is my maternal Grandfather, Jake. This is the only photo in which I see a resemblance between him and Mom.
