A Closer Look (Part 32)
Alytus, Lithuania, 1922. A friend of my maternal Grandfather, Jake, strikes an interesting expression.

At the Edge
Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. We've reached Iceberg Lake. Dad assures me it's safe at this spot.

We rarely worried about bears.
Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. We don't seem concerned, even though bear grass surrounds us during our hike.

She brought the grey knitting bag.
Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. It must have been a leisurely hike (probably to Redrock Falls); Mom's not wearing hiking boots. (Here's a color photo in which the bag appears.)

This is one of the last scouting images.
Schweinfurt, Germany, Summer 1948. My Dad (second from left) joins fellow scouts shortly before the group's departure for the Isarhorn jamboree.

Gathered
Padubysis, Lithuania, probably early- to mid-1920s. I initially resisted posting this photo because it is poorly focused. Both my Dad and his twin JonÄ—, however, kept the image among their important papers. Dad and JonÄ— only wrote the name of a Lithuanian city, Padubysis, on the back of the snapshot. I decided to post the photo because it shows several generations of the family of my paternal Grandfather, Vytautas. Vytautas is the tanned fellow standing in the back row, second from left. My Dad and JonÄ— likely are the children sitting on the ground.

Picnic Culture: Gather at the hammock.
Near Vilnius, Lithuania, about 1930. It's a good spot for a photograph.
Thanks to my Kaunas
Cousin—whose relatives appear in this image—for making this photo available to
us.

A Stop at the Park
Near Vilnius, Lithuania, about 1928. I believe the young woman is Valerie. She's probably here with her baby and her Parents.
Thanks to the older couple's Great-Granddaughter—my Kaunas Cousin—for making this photo available to us.

Little Sailor
Near Vilnius, Lithuania, 1920s. We are not sure who this woman is, but she's likely a relative of Suzanne, the wife of my Dad's older cousin, Henry. The word on the boy's hat is "Lietuva," or "Lithuania." Did you know that "Lietuva" means "Rainland?"
Thanks to my Kaunas Cousin for making this photo available to us.

Hiking to Iceberg Lake
Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. Mom and I approach the destination of our day hike. I'm still carrying that walking stick.

We're off.
Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. Mom and I are equipped for our hike: I have a walking stick, and Mom carries her knitting bag.

A Shore Walk, in Three Takes
Door County, Wisconsin, March 1976. My Mom, Vytenis, and Donna have walked to the shore. The lake levels were much higher then; the water reached the tree line, and fine pebbles lined the beach.

Door County, Wisconsin, March 1976. Ah! Gigi accompanied the walkers.
