Relaxing after Work

Suburban Chicago, about 1969. I am uncertain about this photo's date. Gigi's in the picture, so it's in 1969 or after. It's not much later than that, however, because it's before Mom starting wearing trousers. She used to return from work and change into a sensible skirt, blouse, and sweater.

It's likely before 1971 because I didn't keep goldfish once I reached the seventh grade.

Mom's fancy knitting bag rests on the floor.

We chose a shorter hike.

Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. We can't be going very far because: (1) we're not wearing our hiking boots; and (2) Mom's carrying the fancy knitting bag. She carried the gold, vinyl knitting bag on longer hikes.

Lunch Service

Near Geneva, Illinois, June 1967. Mom and I are enjoying the annual picnic; Mom, again, has brought her knitting bag. The woman holding the ketchup bottle is Lily (I remember her dress; it was orange with white polka dots.)

Carry the esssentials when you hike.

Utica, Illinois, October 1963. The end of the weekend at Starved Rock nears. Mom has her pocketbook and her fancy knitting bag. She's also wearing sensible shoes.

She brought the grey knitting bag.

Glacier National Park, Montana, July 1966. It must have been a leisurely hike  (probably to Redrock Falls); Mom's not wearing hiking boots. (Here's a color photo in which the bag appears.)

Bug Spray

Door County, Wisconsin, June 1980. My Mom and her best friend, Donna, keep the can handy as they knit.
