Kaunas, Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic, June 6, 1989. My Mom's friend Joy wrote, "I stand at the Freedom Monument, near Kaunas's War Museum."

Adorable

Indiana, about 1967. This is my friend V and her Mom. The embroidery on V's blouse and apron is exquisite. (You also may recall this photo.)

Thanks to my friend V for making this photo available to us.

Weekend Coffee

Suburban Chicago, 1979. Dad and Mom are guests for coffee. I see a box of slides on the coffee table. It could be a long afternoon.

(Check out the hairstyle of the fellow on the left, wearing the blue vest. Rod Stewartish!)

Finished-Object Reunion

Verona, Wisconsin, October 2015. This is "Mary Tudor," a design by Alice Starmore. The button is amber backed with copper: custom made.

Although this was a fun knit—it's the first time I've worked up a Starmore kit—I can't say I am crazy about the color palette. I prefer more muted shades.

Related by Marriage: Performance Garb

Suburban Chicago, July 1980. Mr. Irene's Los Angeles Cousins prepare to depart for the Lithuanian Folk Dance Festival. The group stands in the backyard of Mr. Irene's childhood home.

Does the design on those sleeves look familiar? Does it look like Mr. Irene's Los Angeles Cousin is checking her cell phone?

Grab a Book: Fireside Edition

Door County, Wisconsin, April 1976. Mom has her projects within reach as she sits near the fire.

(I posted the mountain-goat photo here. I see that I have not yet scanned the other image on the wall. I'll dig around for it.)

Millinery Model

Cicero, Illinois, April 1966. Jadzė D was a skilled knitter and seamstress. Here, Mom tries on one of the hats Jadzė D crafted. (Mom's also wearing one of her own knitted suits.)

Here's another reason why I like Steven Tyler.

Aerosmith is performing this week in Vilnius. While sightseeing in the city, the band paused in front of the Lithuanian White House. Steven Tyler stopped there to sing with some musicians.

Later, Tyler toured the White House and met with President Grybauskaitė ("We saw you around palace, and we decided to catch you").

Charming!

Graduation season approaches.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada, 1970. My Dad's twin sister, Jonė, is delighted as her daughter—my Toronto Cousin—graduates from Lithuanian school. My Toronto Cousin wears the folkdress my paternal Grandmother, Tatjana, sewed in 1939.

Thanks to my Toronto Cousin for making this photo available to us.
