We are on the trail.
Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, July 1967. I have that weary-cowboy look. Mom feigns enjoyment.

A Closer Look (Part 19)
Suburban Chicago, February 1962. This "Closer Look" is not an image I cropped; instead, it's one Dad enlarged and printed. Here's the original post.
An Arrival
Kaunas, Lithuania, about 1934 or 1935. Suzanne—the wife of my Dad's older cousin, Henry—introduces her daughter, Kaunas Nina, to a friend.
Thanks to Suzanne's Granddaughter—my Kaunas Cousin—for making this photo available to us.

Class Notes (Part 1)
My Mom's schools did not issue yearbooks. The students therefore did not have a publication in which to scribble notes to one another. My Mom and her classmates instead carried booklets—similar to the "autograph books" I remember—in which the friends recorded messages.
Mom still has her memento booklet. I'll be posting some images from it. Today I start with scans of the booklet's cover, interior binding, and a drawing a friend did for Mom.
The inscription shows Mom received the booklet as a birthday gift in 1931. Mom still lived in Panemunė at that time.
(I see a sweater design in that weave-inspired motif.)

Kaunas, Lithuania, February 16, 1934. Mom's friend, "Z.M.," wrote, "A remembrance!"

Lake Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, July 1964. In the 1960s, we didn't see seagulls in urban areas. We spotted the birds only when we traveled to a lakeside location.

A Closer Look (Part 18)
Tambov, Russia, 1910 or 1911. This is my paternal Grandmother Tatjana's younger sister, Elena. She was 12 years old when she sat for this photo. Here's the original post.
Elena's embroidered dress matches the one her sister Natasha wore that day.

Happy Birthday!
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, January 1958. Happy Birthday to my Toronto Cousin!
The partygoers celebrate in the kitchen of Toronto Cousin's childhood home. The refrigerator is very similar to the one we had. The door on the right leads to the basement of the Toronto house. The stairs to the basement were very steep, and I was afraid to walk down them. I used to scoot down those stairs on my butt to avoid falling.
Thanks to my Toronto Cousin for making this photo available to us.

The salad on the right resembles "Babos Vinegretas." There's a plate of Košeliena (ew, ew, ew)—sometimes translated as "Jellied Pigs' Feet," "Chopped Meat in Aspic," or "Head Cheese"—near the bread. The fried pastry mound on the left looks like a "Skruzdėlynas," or "Ant Hill Cake."
