Chopping Wood, in Three Takes

Door County, Wisconsin, July 1980. Chopping wood was one of the activities Dad enjoyed when he and Mom were in Door County. Dad seemed to have some wood-chopping project under way most of the time. He chopped so much wood that it took up a good part of the garage space.

(You may have seen that Schwinn bicycle earlier here.)

Weekend Work

Door County, Wisconsin, Autumn 1975. Dad uses a chainsaw to speed the chopping chores.

I remember that hat! It was a deerskin number Dad bought from Norm Thompson. (You've already seen the London Fog windbreaker.)

Daddy's Girl

My Parents acquired our first Poodle, Gigi, largely because I wanted a dog. Although Gigi was a delightful family pet, she bonded most intensely with my Dad. Gigi was at Dad's side at every turn. Even after Dad returned home from heart surgery, Gigi rested with him in bed throughout the recovery period.

Most dog owners will concede that during their lives, there has been one dog who stood out as the "top dog" in their hearts. For my Dad, that dog was Gigi.

Door County, Wisconsin, June 1980. Dad and Gigi relax in the Door County yard. Dad must have just finished chopping wood because he is wearing his boots.
