It's the last week of "summer."

Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin, July 1962. I enjoy every moment.

Well, for those of us of "a certain age", it is. Actually, my school started the week after Labor Day.

And the realization school was just around the corner imparted a certain desperation to each day.

(this is the first week of school, that's so weird to me)

Here in Wisconsin, most schools start after Labor Day. The idea is to let the summer places (like the Wisconsin Dells) enjoy the economic benefits of a final, holiday weekend.

Good for them.

This nonsense of starting a week before Labor day is the teachers' unions wanting more holidays (er, conferences) for themselves.
