Chicago experienced a blizzard in January, 1978. Overall, the city received 12.4 inches between January 25 and 27. This was not as great a total as the amount that fell the following year, between January 13 and 14, 1979, and led to the election of Jane Byrne as Mayor of Chicago.
But it was enough snow to make a bunch of college kids very happy.
