A Time in Shades of Grey

In the "mid-century modern" era, before the harvest golds and avocado greens of the 1960s painted the mod era in pop, turbulent colors, things were grey.

The first living room I remember had grey walls, grey furniture, a grey, sculpted grey carpet, and my Dad, in a grey suit.

The few splashes of color were my beloved Godmother's pink suit-dress, and the peculiar drapes—in shades of ivory, copper, green, and, of course, grey—that hung across the bay picture window.

April 1961. My Godmother and my Dad smile as they look at one of the photo albums that—like the one on the lower shelf of the end table—serves as reservoir of images for this blog.
