Alpine Outing


Isarhorn, Germany, August 2 to 14, 1948. A group of Lithuanian scouts, all Displaced Persons, gathers for a snapshot near the Alps.

Those buildings seem to have an unusual surface.

They are unusual, aren't they? If only one building looked that way, then I would say it was attributable to the age of the photo. Given that both look that way, it must be some finish with which I am not familiar.

I think that unusual pattern on the outer walls is "alpine camoflague." Instead of the forest/grass patterns for combat fatigues meant for ground cover, these alpine patterns may have been intended as screens from air surveillance.
