A Closer Look (Part 30)
Kaunas, Lithuania, about 1923. My maternal Grandmother Jadzė lost one of the earrings she wears in this photo. The earring fell down the same well into which her bracelet tumbled.

Related by Marriage: Change of Plans
When Mr. Irene's Dad was growing up, the family planned for him to take over the duties of running the family farm. After Mr. Irene's Dad fled the 1944 Soviet occupation of Lithuania, his mother, Veronica, instead relied on an unrelated Farm Manager to oversee the property—and the collectivization of the farming operation.

Well
My Mom recalls how the backyard of her childhood home featured an old-fashioned well. One afternoon when her mother, Jadzė, went to the well to draw up some water, Jadzė's favorite gold, chain-link bracelet unclasped and fell from her wrist to the well's bottom.
