Related by Marriage: Basic Training


Fort Belvoir, Kentucky, June 1952. Ignas, the older brother of Mr. Irene's Dad, takes a break from basic training. On the back of the photo, Ignas wrote, "Well, I'm picnicking with a beer bottle on a Sunday afternoon."

Related by Marriage: Tank Instructor!

An ongoing source of humor in the family is the designation of Mr. Irene's Dad as a tank instructor during his stint in the U.S. Army.

When Mr. Irene's Dad was in the Army, he often sent annotated photographs of himself to his brother, Ignas.

Camp Pickett, Virginia, April 28, 1951. Mr. Irene's Dad trains as a tank instructor. He wrote, “Brother!! Well, here's your brother next to his tank, thinking about going for a drive."
