Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, July 1963. When we visited the area near the Kennedy Compound, I assumed we would see some famous people. Mom consoled me.
PS I'm sure the media types thought calling it a compound sounded less hoity-toity than an estate, but the word compound always conjured in me visions of Luft Stalag 13 and the guard towers of the East German border.
