The Life Box (Part 13)

This is a Lithuanian-school textbook, Kregždutė. "Kregždutė" means "swallow" in Lithuanian.

Melrose Park, Illinois, about 1968 through 1970. I expressed myself on the cover.

Melrose Park, Illinois, about 1968 through 1970. The text featured historical stories, poems, and cultural narratives. The only passage I colored and marked "read this" is the one about the Templar Knights' forced conversion of the pagan Lithuanians. That's interesting!

Melrose Park, Illinois, about 1968 through 1970. I don't know why I wrote, "Waltzing mice/6 female/3 male" on the back cover. Later, Babe became one of my favorite movies. I sometimes said, in a mousy voice, "a tragic day" at the beginning of the last class of the semester. ("Pork is a nice, sweet meat" comes up occasionally at dinner.)

Melrose Park, Illinois, about 1968 through 1970. I often got into trouble because I doodled and drew during class time. Here's a drawing I stuck into the front of the book. It's a mod chick.

I had a grade school friend who drew like that during class.

His grades were good enough that the teachers didn't notice.

My teachers found it insubordinate. I wasn't good at hiding what I was doing.
