My grandfather loved his visits to your parents' Door County home.
I remember one trip when he and my mom drove up, and I followed a few days later. I pulled up in the driveway and saw him sitting on a rock near the beach. He was in his late 80's by then and used a cane, which he had placed on the ground next to him. I have no idea how he managed it. I walked over to say hello and chat. I asked him how his visit was going so far and he said "I like to sit on the beach and hear the lake praying."
It's one of my favorite Door County memories.
What a lovely memory.
I have a photo of your Dad and Grandfather that I had planned to post as part of the "Sunday Paper" series. It captures a moment similar to the one you describe. I'll send it to you now.
