Picnic Culture: Gather at the hammock.

Near Vilnius, Lithuania, about 1930. It's a good spot for a photograph.

Thanks to my Kaunas Cousin—whose relatives appear in this image—for making this photo available to us.

A very popular type of pose in them that days.

There's an oft-reproduced photo of Armstrong Custer and his officers with their wives/girlfriends that's almost identical.

Thanks for the information. I will look up that image.

Here it is.

Armstrong is standing in the center in a white buckskin jacket, his wife, Libbie, kneels at his side.

To the far right, in a white sombrero and black shirt, is his brother, Capt Tom Custer, winner of 2 Medals of Honor. Between them, with very long sideburns is William Cooke, 7th Cavalry adjutant.

Some believe either Tom or Cooke shot Custer in the head after he was mortally wounded at Little Big Horn. Both were so horribly mutilated after the battle, they had to be indentified by other means.

Thank you! We visited the Little Big Horn site several times during our drives to Montana.

I've got to get out there some time.
