They "made it."
Suburban
Chicago, August 1958. This is how my
childhood home looked around the time I was born. My Parents bought
the house when they learned they were expecting me. The little girl
standing at the front-door steps is my Toronto
Cousin.

After the Depression, and WWII, this was how a lot of people knew they'd made it.
Thank you for respecting their dreams and understanding the effort (in your case, I think it was much easier than for us whose families were already here) it took to make them come true.
PS Funny, but my Aunt Claribel, her husband, and her mother bought their house the year I was born (right after it was built, I believe), although that house looks more the second one I remember she had, after her husband and mother died.
Keep this up and I'm going to spend the day all choked up.
Thanks.
Thanks, edutcher.
