Coming or Going
Salzburg, Austria, about 1945. On the right stand Kadis, future husband of my Dad's twin sister, Jonė. After fleeing Lithuania, Kadis lived in one of the five Displaced Persons Camps in Salzburg, Austria. The Salzburg camps, like the Seligendstadt and Schweinfurt camps in which, respectively, my Mom and Dad lived, also fell within the zone of U.S. occupation.
The train behind Kadis appears to read "Austrian Resettlement." This makes me think that Kadis is about to leave for, or has just arrived in, Salzburg.
What a handsome guy! Mr. Irene thinks Kadis looks like Spencer Tracy.
Thanks to my Toronto Cousin for making this photo available to us.
