How to select the most endearing characteristic: enormous camera, gleaming intelligence, self-deprecating shrug. I wonder whether H is for Hawk (Macdonald) resonated for you?

You have described Dad perfectly.

I have not read that book, but I am familiar with the plot. Dad died 30 years ago. Many bad things collided around us at that time--besides Dad's illness--so I almost don't remember which calamity sparked the grief, anger, and despair.
