Autumn Woods
Near Kaunas, Lithuania, November 1940. My Dad and his friends explore the forest. My Parents commented often about a difference they noticed between American forests and those in Lithuania. In this country, we favor parks and preserves in their natural, wild state. In Lithuania, people preferred park-like, wooded areas, and the government employed wardens to clear forest floors and remove debris.
ADDED: The Lithuanian word for a forest worker is "girininkas."
