Red Currants
Near Kaunas, Lithuania, about 1936. Suzanne—the wife of my Dad's older cousin, Henry—and her sister collect currants.
Red currants are a delicacy in Lithuania. I rarely see them in the United States. Our family grew them in the backyard, near the fence that separated our home from the neighbors to the north.
Thanks to my Kaunas Cousin for making this photo available to us.

OK, this was a Philadelphia thing.
Back when I was a kid there was a company called Tastykake that made the sort of goodies Hostess made (but lots better).
One of their standbys was jelly krimpets made with (are you ready?) red currant jelly.
Funny how that works out.
I remember red currants being more common here in the States back then. Now, people confuse them with lingonberries.
