Central Michigan, July 1965. Here's another
image from our road trip to Canada. We transported a lot of stuff
that summer—that's why my Parents put that storage container on the Buick's
roof. We had borrowed it from a neighbor. The container turned out to be a
problem. Not long after Dad took this photo, we continued to make our way north,
at full speed. The container flew off the roof and landed behind us on the
highway. We were lucky we didn't hit anyone (and we weren't at a place where
this
could happen).
There's been some discussion
about whether we were driving the Buick or Dad's
VW that summer; this photo should resolve that debate. We never took
the VW on our month-long vacations because Mom doesn't drive stick.

Mom looks like she'd grown up driving a stick.
