Hanau, Germany, about 1946. A friend sent along this photo of her mother—fourth from left—at the Hanau Displaced Persons Camp. Her mother stands with women wearing the folk dresses of the three Baltic nations, namely Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Whomever came up with that idea had a good one.
and I'm betting the women had to hand-make those dresses there, so it gave them something useful and enjoyable to do.
