This is the icon with which my paternal Grandmother, Tatjana, blessed people before they set out on a journey—whether a literal trip or a new passage in life. Although Tatjana converted to Roman Catholicism when she emigrated to Lithuania, the Russian Orthodox tradition of using tiny icons to anoint family milestones remained close to her heart.
April 2012. Did Tatjana bless you before you set out on a trip or a pivotal adventure?
Thanks to my Toronto Cousin for making it possible for me to photograph the icon.
UPDATE: The icon depicts an image of St. Seraphim of Sarov.
