Waiting for the Guests

My Dad set up the self-timer to take this photo while he and my Mom awaited Sunday guests:

Suburban Chicago, February, 1961. Mom wears the pink apron that she reserved for days when she acted as hostess.

The wooden figurine on the piano stirs memories. It is of a woman, dressed in white, holding a baby. The inscription reads, "Lady Doctor." Mom had received it as a gift from a patient.
