Boy, does that look familiar! Mr Kris and I waded through even deeper water sometime in the 1980's when the Des Plaines flooded your parents' house from the front, and Silver Creek from the rear. We filled sandbags and put them against the house and garage to keep the water out as much as possible.
I remember when I got part way down the wet carpeted stairs to the rec room, and I could feel a tingling in my feet. The water was electrified, I think.
Your mom gave free tetanus shots to everyone because the flood water was pretty nasty!
